The Washington Football Team or WFT has been the hottest team in the NFL the last 4 weeks.

WFT has won 4 straight games to even their record at 6-6 with their latest win being a nailbiter out in Las Vegas against the Raiders.

Surprisingly, WFT is winning by running the football, playing solid defense, and taking risks. There is no Chase Young who is out with an ACL tear. There is no Montez Sweat who has been recovering from a fractured jaw.

The defense has relied solely on the backs of that defensive line with Jonathan Allen and DaRon Payne as the anchors. Cole Holcomb and Jamin Davis are two young linebackers flourishing in Jack Del Rio’s system. Both are ball seekers and can play from sideline to sideline. The team as a whole seems to be gelling at the right time.

WFT QB Taylor Heinicke

Ryan Fitzpatrick was supposed to be the guy this season, but, instead the guy has been Taylor Heinicke. Heinicke has been a fan favorite of the WFT since the 2020 season and his playoff performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A graduate of Old Dominion University, Heinicke didn’t really find a home in the NFL, until the 2020 season. But Heinicke has been better than a game manager, but is likely not a type of player you build your entire team around. He has grit and is as competitive as anyone, but does make some mistakes and certainly leaves fans white knuckled throughout a game.

There are reservations about Heinicke, considering how Washington has handled quarterbacks in the past, to not consider him to be a story like Kurt Warner. Heinicke is a fantastic #2 and deserves every bit of that stature considering he was not in the NFL 18 months ago.

WFT, in typical fashion, could very well see Heinicke as a starter for 4-5 years before they draft a QB. The fan base respects Heinicke and what he has done. The team seems to be behind him. He gives it his all on the field. And, for now, he has the WFT rolling, winning 4 straight, with Dallas on the horizon.

WFT won four games against the following teams:

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Carolina Panthers
  • Las Vegas Raiders

WFT Remaining Schedule

Their next 5 games are against division opponents:

  • 12/12 – Dallas Cowboys (8-4)
  • 12/19 – Philadelphia Eagles (6-7)
  • 12/26 – Dallas Cowboys (8-4)
  • 1/2 – Philadelphia Eagles (6-7)
  • 1/9 – New York Giants (4-8)

If WFT wins out, they would finish the season at 11-6 with a 9 game win streak. Winning out would be the best possible scenario for WFT, the chances of this happening are highly unlikely.

The most likely scenario would be to split with both the Eagles and Cowboys, and end the season with a win over the Giants. This scenario would give WFT a record of 9-8. That might be good enough to get WFT into the playoffs, but as a wildcard and likely facing a 2 or 3 seed.

Either way, the Washington Football Team is on a roll. The fanbase as a whole had seemed ready to cut ties with River Boat Ron and all of the former Carolina Panthers. But there is hope that if this team can make the playoffs in consecutive seasons, that progress is being made.

At least until Dan Snyder gets his hands involved.
