2023 NFL Draft

The 2023 NFL Draft will be the 88th annual meeting of National Football League (NFL) franchises to select newly eligible players. The draft is scheduled to be held in the plaza outside of Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri, on April 27–29, 2023.

The Chicago Bears own the first overall pick for the first time since 1947. As that was a “bonus pick” that was awarded from 1947 to 1958 to each of the then-twelve teams and their other first overall selection in 1941 came via trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, this marked the first time since the draft was first instituted in 1936 that the Bears genuinely earned the first pick by having the worst record in the NFL the year before. (In both previous instances, the Bears were ironically the defending NFL Champions.) The Bears previously came closest in 1970, when they tied the Pittsburgh Steelers for the worst record but lost to the Steelers on a coin toss to draft future Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw. The Bears have, however, talked about trading the pick.
