Von Miller has been traded from the Denver Broncos to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Los Angeles Rams are sitting at 7-1, tied with the Cardinals and Packers in the NFC. Executing a trade for Von Miller might be what the Rams need in order to be a contender late in the season.

For Miller, this trade could certainly be a fresh start for him considering the Rams are 7-1.

Miller is that freak athlete who uses size and cunning ability to be a prolific rush linebacker in a 4-3 offense.

Miller could have large sudden impact in the Rams defense, that is lacking a pass rush outside of Aaron Donald.

I think the NFC West and the entire conference has been put on notice that the Rams are making a push.

Trade Collateral

Personally, I think its likely that Von Miller could have gone for a round 3 pick, and the suggestion of 2 2022 Day 2 picks could very well be 2 3rd round picks. According to Tankathon, the Rams currently have pick 62 in the 2nd round and picks 94 and 100* in the 3rd.

Not many options for the pick scenarios:

  1. 62 and 100
  2. 62 and 94
  3. 94 and 100

*Pick 100 is a compensatory pick, but is anticipated and could fluctuate as the draft gets closer.

Analysis and Outlook

This seems more of a win to the Broncos than it does for the Rams. 7 out of 10 years with the Broncos, Miller amassed double digit sacks, but the 2020 season produced 8 sacks and he seems to be on track for a single digit sack season in 2021 based on the Bayes Thereom.

With Miller being 32, the Rams are getting a guy likely on the downside of the career, which might need a new atmosphere to provide a spark, but its high risk high reward right now. They gambled on Matt Stafford and he has been everything they have wanted in a quarterback.

For the Broncos, this alleviates salary cap issues and nets them 2 solid picks for next season.

For the Rams, this generates a pass rusher to win now. The Rams have not been a team to hold onto draft picks in recent years, so this is a win now situation and 2 day 2 draft picks is worth it.

Miller was quoted as being emotional leaving the Broncos facility, but nothing the winning the Rams have been doing won’t cure, not to mention sunny skies and warm weather.
