Saturday January 29th, the WWE is hosting one of its biggest pay per view events leading up to Wrestlemania, the Royal Rumble.

If you’re not familiar with the Rpyal Rumble, 2 wrestlers start in the ring and every 2 minutes, another entrant enters the rumble match. The last person to not be eliminated by being tossed over the top rope, is declared the winner.

Each year of the Royal Rumble brings new surprises and shocking entrances from wrestlers who had not been around for a while, or are retired Hall of Famer wrestlers. In 2020, we saw the return of the Rated R Superstar – Edge enter the Royal Rumble at 17.

There are other matches which happen at the Royal Rumble and lets take a look at those matches with prospective predictions.

The WWE 2022 Royal Rumble acn be seen on Peacock.

Matches

Mixed Tag Match: Beth Pheonix and Edge vs. The Miz and Maryse

This WWE matchup has been a build up starting from Maryse getting involved in a match at Day 1 of The Miz and Edge. Beth Pheonix comes out and looks to exact revenge on Maryse, but the Miz and Maryse escape the ring and the show ends. T

he Miz and Maryse are going to have a bit of ring rust considering neither have wrestled in months and years, but if there is one pair that can continuously lose and still have confidence, its the Miz and Maryse. This is exactly what is going to happen and it’s likely that Beth Pheonix will put one over on Maryse.

Winner: Edge and Beth Pheonix

Raw Women’s Championship – Doudrop vs. Becky Lynch

The WWE Raw womens division has been getting slashed as of late and it looks as though the push for Liv Morgan has died out. The angle for this match is that Becky Lynch paved the way for Doudrop, but that Becky still has something to teach her.

Considering this is the first match on the card, I don’t expect Doudrop to win the match, but she will show a good outing with power moves and manhandling of Big Time Becks, and in the end, Becky will put Doudrop in the Disarmer and Doudrop will submit.

Winner: By Submission – Becky Lynch

Women’s Royal Rumble Match

Like any other royal rumble match, this one will show most of the current women’s roster with the flash of some all time greats like Lita, maybe Trish Stratus, Beth Pheonix and some others, but for the most part, the Womens roster is deep enough to fill most of the slots, that don’t include champions.

The list of entrants that are known:
Carmella, Dana Brooke, Nikki A.S.H., Queen Zelina, Rhea Ripley, Tamina, Aliyah, Charlotte Flair, Naomi, Natalya, Shayna Baszler, Shotzi, Brie Bella, Lita, Nikki Bella, Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, Mickie James, Summer Rae, Bianca Belair, Liv Morgan

Possible Surprise Entrances

  • Ronda Rousey – Biggest rumor of a return after her long hiatus.
  • Alexa Bliss
  • Trish Stratus
  • Asuka
  • Paige

Winner: Charlotte Flair (Unless Rousey Appears)

Out of all the entrants, Charlotte Flair is the most prominent. It will be nice to see the Bella twins, but these names like Lita and Mickie James are just novelty names of which will see a good amount of action, but will fall one way or another. Charlotte Flair was held out of Wrestlemania last year, and that is not going to happen this year.

Mens Royal Rumble Match

Much like the Women’s Royal Rumble Match, the men will have the same rules and the same premise with some guys coming out of retirement to make an appearance, or come up from NXT to fill a spot, but we won’t know that until the numbers are called and the entrants all come out.

The mens entrants are: Johnny Knoxville, Montez Ford, Angelo Dawkins, Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio, Austin Theory, Sheamus, Damian Priest, AJ Styles, Big E, Happy Corbin, Madcap Moss, Sami Zayn, Kofi Kingston, Kevin Owens, Omos, Randy Orton, Riddle, Chad Gable, Otis, Dolph Ziggler, Robert Roode

Possible Surprise Entrances:

  • Goldberg
  • Titus O’Neill
  • The Undertaker
  • John Cena
  • Kurt Angle

Winner: Kevin Owens

Of this list, Big E and Kevin Ownes just stand out. Austin Theory is doing this schtick with Vince McMahon, but he is not quite championship material. Orton will be one of the last 4 and if RK-Bro does not win the titles earlier in the night, then look for an Orton tossing Riddle over the top in Randy Orton fashion. Omos is a wild card, but there is no way he is ready for a push. Likely final 4 would be Orton, Big E, Owens and a mystery entrant.

Raw Tag Team Championship: RK-Bro vs. The Alpha Academy

The Alpha Academy won the Ra Tag Team titles on Monday Night Raw, and the past few weeks have been satirical at best with academic challenges and scooter riding challenges, but, this match is likely to be the set up of RK-Bro to dismantle to have Randy Orton get back to his singles matches and chasing titles.

Winner: The Alpha Academy

WWE Championship: Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar

Lesnar won the championship as a late addition to the championship fatal 4 way to make it a fatal 5 way, when Roman Reigns could not perform due to a positive Covid-19 test. That but made it a fore gone conclusion that Lesnar would win the title.

Vince is doing everything he can to have the biggest names collide at Wrestlemania. It is the biggest draw for Vince. This match will have MVP in Lashley’s corner, while Paul Heyman in Lesnar’s corner. Lashley will do whatever it takes to get that championship back, so expect some distraction and interference from MVP.

Because Lashley is boasting the Hurt Lock, I would not be surprised to see Brock get Lashley into the Kimora lock at one point during the match. Ultimately, both submissions holds will be broken out of. Both of these guys are massive guys who are strong. It’s going to come down to the finishers with Lashley and the spear or Brock and the F5.

Universal Championship: Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns

This match of course is a late push but with some intention behind it for Wrestlmania. The goal is to have Brock and Roman headline Wrestlemania, but the Champions cannot quite merge the belts, and I am sure Vince does not want a 2 belt champion. One of the champions has to lose. What happens if the Head of the Table falls?

On Smackdown, The USO’s had to beat Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens to relinquish the match between Rollins and Reigns, but as the Uso’s started to lose the match, Reigns got involved and got the Uso’s disqualified. That meant that the Uso’s were banned from ringside during the Royal Rumble match with Rollins and Reigns. Rollins can have whom ever he wishes.

Winner: Seth Rollins
Seth has not gotten a good push for sometime now and as a face of the company, Vince has to get him into the spotlight like he was 4 years ago. Roman’s main goal with the Universal championship was to beat Brock’s length of being champion, which he has done. Having Seth win the Universal Championship, which likely might come at the hands of either Kevin Owens or Brock Lesnar. Owens would interfere to have Seth win, especially if Owens wins the Rumble, while Lesnar would interfere to ensure a Wrestlemania Main Event with Reigns.
