2022 NFL Mock Draft – Picks 17-32

17.     LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
Devonte Wyatt, DT, Georgia

The Chargers could find gold with this pick. Wyatt is an aggressive defensive tackle who can penetrate gaps and shed blocks very well. With the like of Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa rushing the passer, drafting a player like Wyatt makes the most sense to alleviate a lot of attention off your two premier pass rushers.

18.     PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama

If Williams does not tear his ACL in the NCAA Championship game, his draft position is a bit different. Likely to start the season on the PUP list, the Eagles would benefit from investing in the best WR in the draft despite his injury. Williams is the best vertical threat in the draft and has the ability to reel in any catch. He runs solid routes and can sell routes to get open.

19.     NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah

I believe the Saints jumped up in the draft to get ahead of the Chargers to get their offensive tackle. In this case, that didn’t really pan out. At this point, the Saints could go BPA that makes sense, and considering their inability to stop the run, they take a very productive LB from Utah. Lloyd showed a lot of versatility at Utah where he was able to pull in 2 INT’s and 2 FF’s in 2021 while also leading the Utes in tackles. Lloyd has good range and can play sideline to sideline. He is very aggressive getting downhill to chase down ball carriers and could bring a attitude to the Saints defense.

20.     PITTSBURGH STEELERS
Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh

With the Steelers signing Mitchell Trubisky, it’s difficult to see a long term solution for Trubisky as the Steelers starter. The Steelers have done their scouting and watching of Pickett considering he is a backyard talent where Pitt and Pittsburgh share practice facilities. The Steelers have the opportunity to slow play Pickett and get him prepared for the NFL with Trubisky at the helm.

21.     NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington

McDuffie is a very good corner that has desireable traits for his position but he does fall short in overall length and arm length which prevents him from reaching his full pass defense production. He makes up for this by being more physical at the LOS and being active in the run game. The Patriots are very limited at CB and will likely have McDuffie as an outside corner.

22.     GREEN BAY PACKERS
Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State

With Green Bay trading off Davante Adams, they need to add another WR to the mix. Olave will counter balance what the Packers have in Lazard and Cobb. Olave will bring a vertical threat to the offense but also the ability to sell routes and create production over the middle. Doesn’t have as good of hands as Wilson but he does focus on catching the ball and getting upfield fast. Rodgers will make Olave a star.

23.      ARIZONA CARDINALS
George Karlaftis, EDGE, Purdue

The Cardinals lost Chandler Jones this off season and did not bring anyone else in to make up for the lost production. Because the EDGE rusher position is not as deep in the middle rounds, the Cardinals need to get one earlier. Karlaftis is a very solid player who may not have the sack numbers, but he creates opportunities overall on defense. Karlaftis has a non stop motor and conditionally seems to think he is a bit faster in pursuit than he actually is. He can stand up or put his hand in the dirt which will make him very versatile for the Cardinals defense.

24.     DALLAS COWBOYS
Zion Johnson, OG, Boston College

Dallas took a step into a new direction when they started to quietly bolster their offensive line. Frankly, it’s why Dak Prescott has had so much success. With Connor Williams heading to Miami, that vaulted Conner McGovern to the front of the line. But the Cowboys know they need to protect Dak Prescott and be able to run the ball with Zeke. This may not be a flashy pick for the Cowboys, but it is one of necessity to continue progressing their championship goals. Zion Johnson is the most sound interior offensive lineman in the draft.

25.     BUFFALO BILLS
Kaiir Elam, CB, Florida

Tre’Davious White should be back for the 2022 season, but the Bills must add an opposite physical corner to the other side of the defense. By adding Von Miller to the pass rush, the front seven seem to be dangerous enough, but that secondary is lacking outside of white. Elam is a big physical corner that has length and fluidity. Elam fits the mold of a Buffalo CB with a bit of an edge and some grit to work at their craft. Near immediate impact player for Buffalo.

26.     TENNESSEE TITANS
Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State

Tennesse is a run heavy team with the likes of Derrick Henry, but there are rumblings about A.J. Brown not being happy, and the Titans are generally not a team that pays for a high price guy. This is likely going to lead to a trade of Brown leading up to the draft which makes the need for WR more important. If the Titans are not going to extend A.J. Brown, then Dotson makes the most sense here.

27.     TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
Kenyon Green, OG, Texas A&M

The Bucs saw their swing lineman leave in free agency and they still have a spot open at G on the offensive line. Green is a massive guard who does very well in the power run game, which the Bucs like to run. Green has great lower body strength to help him engage in a block, seal, and move to the next level in assignments. Green also plays with a mean streak when he gets out in space and looks to create lanes for ball carriers. He could plug into the offensive line almost immediately.

28.     GREEN BAY PACKERS
David Ojabo, EDGE, Michigan

With this pick the Packers are not in need of an EDGE rusher, but they can certainly draft one that was a top 15 pick who just happened to tear his ACL at his pro day. Ojabo was the more productive pass rusher at Michigan but was not as complete at Hutchinson. His value as a pass rusher is that of a speed rusher with good dip and bend while also being patient to find his spots. Because of the injury, the Packers can wait for his recovery while Preston Smith and Rashawn Gary work through the season.

29.     KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Daxton Hill, S, Michigan

Kansas City was not going to bring back the Honey Badger simply because he would be too expensive and their contracts need to stay balanced. In this class, Safety is a premium position and the Chiefs could take one early in the draft. Hill is such a versatile player and has the skill set much like Mathieu but he would be on a rookie contract. Hill has the ability to play nickel corner, slot, deep or up safety and understands the roles of each position. He is very athletic and uses every inch of his frame to make or attempt to make plays on the ball. His range is what Andy Reid will love.

30.     KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas

It was clear the Chiefs had no interest in paying Tyreek Hill a ton of money after Christian Kirk got overpaid. With the extra first round pick, the Chiefs can grab a playmaking receiver with a bit more size and target area. Burks has a completely different skill set where he is not as elusive nor speedy like Hill but he has a bigger target area for Mahomes to focus on especially over the middle and in the red zone areas.

31.     CINCINNATI BENGALS
Tyler Linderbaum, OC, Iowa

Cincinnati signed Ted Karras from New England but he has been in the league for 7 years and has been on 4 different teams. Because of his size, Linderbaum is a perfect fit at OC so the Bengals could take him here based on positional value and a younger upgrade at the position especially because of the weaknesses they had down the stretch and in the Superbowl.

32.     DETROIT LIONS
Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati

The Lions have this 2nd pick from the Rams and they could use this pick to grab their QB of the future. We have to admit that the Lions need a change at QB. Goff was the consolation from the Stafford trade, so Dan Campbell could find the late 1st round future here with Ridder. Ridder didn’t start off well during the Senior Bowl practices, but had since found more comfort in the evaluation process leading up to this point. He is my QB3 across the board so this position fits. He has a strong arm and his tape has shown to be a consistent play maker and leader of the Bearcats offense. He can sit for the 2022 season and learn while the Lions build up the rest of the team for him to takeover.
